LaMelo Ball is on track to become a future superstar in the NBA. The third overall pick from the 2020 NBA Draft had an incredible rookie year with the Charlotte Hornets, where he brought excitement back to the franchise after several years of mediocrity.

Most recently, LaMelo compared his mentality to that of his team’s owner, Michael Jordan. And Jordan has been very complimentary of LaMelo in the past, clearly showing the faith he has in LaMelo as the centerpiece of his franchise for years to come, and even developing a texting relationship with him.

For his performances, LaMelo was named the 2021 Rookie Of The Year, establishing himself as a star to watch going forward. Given where he was a couple of years ago, it is truly incredible to see LaMelo thriving in the NBA right now.

Instead of going the college route, LaMelo chose to get professional experience instead. He played professional basketball in Lithuania and Australia before making the transition to the NBA. Many were surprised at his decision, but his father LaVar showed a lot of faith in his son.

LaVar became a massive talking point in the NBA, ever since his older son Lonzo was drafted second overall in the 2017 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Lakers. LaVar’s outlandish comments about going one-on-one with Michael Jordan and the quality of star his son Lonzo were made him a controversial figure in the league.

But LaMelo Ball, despite his father’s controversy, is confused why people dislike him so much. In a social media post from the past, LaMelo noted that there are people who have absentee fathers, but LaVar gets criticized for having the utmost confidence and faith in his sons.

“Some kids don’t even have fathers, and y’all hating on my father because he believes that his kids can do anything.”

With LaMelo being drafted in 2020, LaVar had been hyping up LaMelo going into the draft. He spoke very highly of his son, noting that he was the obvious pick to be the first overall pick in the draft. While LaMelo didn’t go first overall, his father was still very proud of him.

Despite LaVar’s antics, no one can deny that he is a very supportive father. He is consistently speaking highly of his sons and does everything in his power to help his sons find the most success they can. And given how his sons have performed in the NBA, he won’t have to work too hard to ensure their success.
