- Canada took on Latvia in the first round of the FIBA World Cup
- A Latvian fan ruthlessly trolled Dillon Brooks before the game
- The fan held up a poster that read “Dillon Brick”
Dillon Brooks really can’t catch a break at this point. As if being mocked by NBA fans wasn’t enough, he is now being trolled by international fans too. Before the game between Canada and Latvia at the FIBA World Cup, a fan held up a poster that read “Dillon Brick.”
Brooks simply glared at the fan and nodded. While he didn’t make Latvia pay for this with just 6 points, 2 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals in the game, his teammates sure did.
Canada won the game 101-75, as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the way with 27 points. It meant the Canadians finished off the First Round of the World Cup with a perfect 3-0 record.
Dillon Brooks Spoke About The Villain Role
Brooks has never really been the most popular figure around due to his antics, but playing for the Memphis Grizzlies meant the spotlight was never really on him.
That changed when he and the Grizzlies took on LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2023 playoffs. Brooks talked trash to LeBron and poking that bear backfired, as the Lakers eliminated the Grizzlies in six games.
Brooks was terrible in that series, with averages of 10.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 0.2 steals per game. That poor play combined with his trash-talking made him public enemy no. 1.
The now-Houston Rockets forward doesn’t really regret any of it, as Brooks recently spoke about his beef with LeBron and the villain role. The 27-year-old felt like he always had James and felt the trash-talking was overblown. He said he always did it, and the Grizzlies still won over 50 games.
Brooks added that he didn’t like the villain role at first, but it isn’t something that affects him anymore. He is probably used to fans mocking him, as was the case here.
Dillon Brooks Has Struggled After A Good Start
Prior to the game against Latvia, Brooks had played pretty well.
In two outings against Lebanon and France, he averaged 11.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.5 steals per game while shooting 81.8% from the field.
Against Latvia and then Brazil, though, he managed just 4.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.5 steals per game while shooting a dreadful 22.2% from the field.
It didn’t cost the Canadians against Latvia, but their perfect start to the tournament was ended by Brazil, who beat them 69-65. They now have a difficult must-win game against No.1 ranked Spain up next on Sunday.
Losing that one would see the Canadians miss out on the Final Round of the World Cup, and that would be a devastating blow.
