As one of the world’s biggest sports stars, it’s no surprise to see LeBron James in ad campaigns across many different platforms. In his latest Nike commercial, James and his daughter, Zhuri, got together for a wholesome 15-second video that recently sparked a lot of attention online. The video included a voice-over from Savannah James, who spoke about “defying the odds.”

LeBron James is interesting enough on his own, but he’s one of the few cases where his fame has extended well beyond himself. In fact, pretty much every member of the James family is famous nowadays, with Savannah being a businesswoman/philanthropist while Bronny and Bryce are making strides in the basketball world. Now, even Zhuri is getting her share of the spotlight and it’s likely she could become a more prominent feature of Nike campaigns going forward.

As for LeBron’s relationship with Nike brand, it’s a mutually beneficial partnership that’s over 20 years in the making now. In 2015, James sealed his connection to the brand by signing an astonishing $1 billion lifetime deal.

The Story Of LeBron And Nike

LeBron James is arguably the most influential Nike athlete since Michael Jordan. While Jordan helped establish the brand’s dominance in the 90s, it was LeBron who picked up the mantle and helped keep them at the top over all these years. The last time that LeBron wasn’t associated with the brand was his rookie season when he was still deciding his fate. At the time, James had several paths to choose and there was a huge offer on the table… which he rejected in favor of a different route.

As the story goes, Reebok offered the young star $110 million over 10 years to sign with them in 2003, but there was one rule that kept it from going through: a $10 million bonus that disallowed him from even speaking to other shoe companies like Nike or Adidas. Since LeBron had a heart for Nike from the start, LeBron went out of his way to ensure he signed with them for his career. Looking back, it was a great move for LeBron and it has generated a ridiculous sum of money for the 4x champion.

 LeBron Hasn’t Lost A Step

It’s not lost on anyone how important this season is for LeBron and the Lakers. As the West gets deeper and expands with talent each year, the Lakers are getting older and the window is closing to win the title. For LeBron, it’s easy for him to keep up appearances for ads on social media, but the work will be cut out for him as he tries to lift the Lakers to the postseason. So far, even in year 21, James is elite and playing like one of the best in the world.

But to finalize his legacy, and match Jordan’s legendary six championship rings, LeBron is going to have to chase one final title and this could be the best year to do it. With new additions like Christian Wood, Gabe Vincent, and Taurean Prince, the Lakers may have enough depth to compete with the likes of Denver, Phoenix, and Golden State. Only time will tell how they stack up against the rest of the West, but LeBron certainly hasn’t lost a beat and he’s confident that the Lakers are going to be one of the last teams standing this summer just like they were last season.
