LeBron James is now in his 21st season in the NBA, and there is no one better than him to give some advice to the younger generation. After the Los Angeles Lakers beat the New York Knicks 113-105 on Saturday night, James was asked what advice he would like to give to younger American players.

“Learn the history of the game,” James said. “Respect the ones that came before you. Even when they do disrespect you, it’s absolutely okay. Know who paved the way… Be a pro. Show up to work, be ready to work. If you on time, you late. Put the work in, the game gives back to you when you put the work in. That’s what the game gods do.”

James stressed that you have to put in the hard yards if you want to go down as one of the greats.

“Come to the gym, be one of the first ones to the gym, be one of the last ones to leave,” James continued. “Just pour it all into the game if you want to be great and if you want to be someone that will never be forgotten in this league.”

The 39-year-old also wants the players to stop focusing on things that don’t matter at the end of the day.

“The cars and the jewelry and all the other s*** don’t matter, means absolutely nothing,” James stated. “I see a lot of these young kids, they get so unfocused about stuff that is so material that they can lose their focus. Just worry about the game, when you worry about the game, everything takes care of itself.”

LeBron also added that it is okay to be selfish at times.

“Worry about the game, worry about our family, and then worry about the game some more and be selfish too,” James added. “It’s okay to be selfish because you have to be a little bit selfish to be able to be great. Some people have to fall to the wayside at times.”

LeBron kept it real there and that’s advice that every young player in the NBA should take heed of. If you want to be great, if you want to be remembered, then you have to give it everything. All the cars and jewelry mean nothing at the end of the day, and all your attention needs to be on the game and your family.

That’s the approach LeBron has had now in his iconic career and it’s why he continues to dominate on the court. The 20-time All-Star is averaging 24.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, 7.6 assists, 1.3 steals, and 0.6 blocks per game in his 21st season because he continues to put the work in, and pours it all into the game.

LeBron James Spoke About Being The Face Of The NBA

LeBron has been the biggest star in the league for much of his career and with that, comes a fair few responsibilities. James spoke about being the face of the NBA, stating that it is his responsibility to represent the league with the utmost respect because it had given him so much.

LeBron added that he tries to set the right example for the younger generation that has looked up to him now for two decades. James is obviously not a perfect human being, but the NBA couldn’t have asked for a much better face than him.
