LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers have really struggled this year. Once considered to be championship contenders, the Lakers have underperformed significantly, and many are doubtful of their chances of getting out of the first round of the playoffs, let alone winning the championship. Even LeBron’s former teammate Richard Jefferson has dismissed them as championship contenders.

One of the biggest concerns for the Lakers this season has been injuries. The Lakers have had many key players injured during the course of this season, including their superstars LeBron James and Anthony Davis. James has spent a few games on the bench this year due to issues with his knee.

And in the latest update he gave, James has given Laker fans more reason to be concerned about him. Speaking during a press conference, LeBron James noted that his injury is very similar to the high ankle sprain he had last year, and only resting it will make it better. But given how the Lakers are playing right now, James does not feel as though he has the luxury of rest available to him.

“It’s the same as my ankle. When I had the high ankle sprain last year. I think it was last year. The only way it’ll be back to full strength is rest, and I don’t have the luxury of having rest.”

Clearly, James understands the severity of the Lakers’ current situation. And while he does want some more time to recover, he understands that the Lakers desperately need his amazing play to try and recover their season and secure a playoff spot in the remaining months of the season.

The hope among the Lakers’ camp will be that he doesn’t further aggravate the injury, as a long-term injury to LeBron could jeopardize their entire season and any outside chance the Lakers may have to make a run in the playoffs and win the NBA championship in June.
