NBA legend LeBron James no doubt has a lot to teach his Lakers teammates after 20 years of experience in the league. This week, however, James gave a different kind of lesson as the offseason comes to a close. In a video that has gone viral on X, the NBA veteran is captured showing Max Christie the ropes at the card table.

Judging by the style of the table, and the people we can see in the video, LeBron was clearly at some type of Lakers event in Los Angeles. The occasion for the event is still unclear at this time, but it’s quite common for teams to build chemistry in this way before the start of a new season. At the end of the video, LeBron said he was moving on to the next table, which implies he was making it a point to visit various people. For the Lakers, this bonding event gives them a chance to get on the same page before the action begins and they’ll need every advantage they can get if they want to keep up with the rest of the field.
LeBron James Is Locked In For His 21st Season
As a 19x All-Star, 4x MVP, and 4x NBA champion, LeBron James has nothing left to prove at this stage of his career. Even so, he continues to work hard to maintain his place as one of the best in the world — and it’s a title he’s held for nearly two decades now. This season, at 38, nobody is expecting LeBron to come out and play like an MVP but there is still a sense that he can be highly effective on the floor. In fact, with averages of 28.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 6.8 assists per game, some have argued that James just finished his best season yet as a member of the Lakers. If he can carry that over into this campaign, there’s no reason to think that the Lakers will struggle to succeed. The only question is if James can stay healthy.
Having only played 55 games last season, concern has built up that the King has the superhuman durability that made him so unstoppable in the past. While injuries are a natural part of an athlete’s decline, LeBron has always been the exception. Clearly, that isn’t so much the case anymore, but LeBron and the Lakers aren’t ready to give up just yet.
The Last Dance For The Lakers
Nobody knows for sure how long the Lakers can stay competitive with their group, but it’s undeniable now that their window is closing as James gets older. Plus, with Bronny James set to be draft-eligible next year, LeBron might choose to follow his son instead of staying with the Purple and Gold.
Needless to say, this season is important for the Lakers. If they want to go out on the right note and give LeBron the kind of send-off he deserves, then this has to be the moment where everything comes together. The hope, at least for Rob Pelinka and the fans, is that this summer’s free-agent signings were enough to put them over the top. If not, it’ll just be another wasted opportunity for the iconic franchise.
