LeBron James is one of the greatest athletes of all time, and there’s no doubt that he has been a prominent figure both on and off the court. His longevity is absolutely unprecedented. Despite the Lakers having a poor season as a team, LeBron James had an insane scoring season, averaging 30.3 PPG.
During the 2022-23 season, LeBron James will be one of the most well-paid players in the league. In fact, his salary will be higher than the entire salary cap from the 2004-05 season, marking just how much more modern players get paid. His superstar status makes him absolutely worth the contract, and we’ll see how far he can take the team next year.
The Los Angeles Lakers should hopefully be better next season. They were linked with Kyrie Irving in a potential trade, and slotting him in for Russell Westbrook at the point guard position should make the Lakers a more cohesive team, as Russell Westbrook doesn’t have the best fit with LeBron James. Kyrie Irving and LeBron James notably won a championship together during the 2016 season, so perhaps a reunion would be welcome for both parties. It was also recently reported that LeBron James wants Kyrie Irving on the Lakers “more than anyone”, and generally, LeBron James has succeeded at getting teammates that he wants.
“James, I’m told, wants to see Irving in Lakerland more than anyone. What other team, furthermore, has a LeBron-sized personality with the experience to cope with all the Chaos that comes with adding Kyrie.”
LeBron James can still play at a high level, and it’ll be interesting to see what his next contract ends up looking like. He will be a free agent at the end of the 2022-23 season.
There is no doubt that LeBron James is entering the latter stages of his career, but he can still win more championships. Hopefully, we will see him do so, whether it’s on the Lakers or otherwise.
