Never before in NBA history have we seen a Father/Son duo play in the league at the same time. LeBron James and his eldest son, Bronny, could be the first.
As an MVP candidate in his 17th season, LeBron has already defied expectations, so who is to say he couldn’t keep it up for a few more years? His most recent extension, 2-years and $85 million, will keep him in town through 2023. Bronny, who turned 16 in October, is currently a sophomore at Sierra Canyon High.
If you do the math, it lines up so that James will be released from his contract the same summer Bronny graduates High School — an ideal situation for the pair to make history.

Unfortunately, there is one big obstacle standing in the way of that dream scenario: the widely-hated Drat eligibility rule, which requires prospects to be at least 19 years old before they can enter the NBA. This plan would postpone Bronny’s entrance into the league, which means LeBron would have to sign a one-year deal to become a free agent in 2024.
So, even if the eligibility rule does not change, it’s still very possible for the two to not only play in the NBA together but also play for the same team.
It’s all speculation, though, as neither LeBron nor his son have confirmed any plans. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens for ourselves.
