Even with LeBron James and Anthony Davis, the thirst for power cannot be satisfied for the Los Angeles Lakers. Speaking on the current state of the Lakers amid their 3-4 start, NBA insider Ramona Shelburne revealed that there are already some calls for a third star to reinforce their championship duo.

“I would give them 25 games. I wouldn’t do anything until you give them like 25 games. But there are already calls in Los Angeles for a third star. Like ‘why didn’t they get James Harden?’ Didn’t we go down this road last year, and then we had to do gymnastics to try and undo the move for Westbrook.”

The Lakers are a team that is always under pressure to perform and with LeBron James nearing the end of his career, the lakers are feeling more pressure than ever to make this a good season and win as many games as they can. But after forfeiting their opportunity to chase stars like Kyrie Irving, James Harden, and Damian Lillard this summer, some fans are asking if maybe the Lakers made a mistake with their offseason strategy.

What’s Wrong With The Lakers?

The Lakers have started off pretty mediocre this season, relying on heavy minutes from LeBron for their three wins so far. Together, LeBron and Davis have been dominating on the floor and if they can just stay healthy, there’s no reason to believe they’ll be losing a step this season. The big problem for the Lakers is actually from the very guys they doubled-down on this past summer.

So far, Austin Reaves has been struggling to find a rhythm on the floor and is shooting just 43% from the field for 14 points per game. The lakers were relying on Reaves to step up as their third man this season, so he’ll have to increase his scoring and efficiency to give the Lakers what they need. Meanwhile, Rui Hachimura has been even worse this season, sitting down at 8 points per game on 42% shooting. Rui, who has been fighting early season injuries, is only averaging 14 minutes per game despite his role in the Lakers’ Conference Finals run. If he, and the rest of the supporting cast, continue to fail to deliver, it could lead to a disappointing season all-around.

Multiple Stars On The Market

The Lakers could have had several big names this summer, including Kyrie Irving, James Harden, and potentially Damian Lillard. But now that those guys are off the table, where can the Lakers look now? According to various sources, the best option is Chicago, where the Bulls might be looking to unload several prized NBA veterans. Depending on the package, the Lakers could pull off a deal for Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, or even Nikola Vucevic. There’s also the Minnesota Timberwolves, who might be willing to listen to an offer for Karl-Anthonty Towns.

Either way, the Lakers have options and they are a franchise that is seemingly always in the running for a star player. If things get too bad, or the right guy is made available for the right price, the Lakers could risk it all by going all-in on star power. At this point, with LeBron still playing like one of the best in the world, the Lakers must consider every option en-route to championship victory.
