Luka Doncic is one of the best players in the NBA, but it isn’t all that easy to play alongside someone who is as ball-dominant as he is. Luka needs the ball in his hands most of the time to be at his best, and that can lead to some problems.
A report had come out of Jalen Brunson’s camp that they believed it would be better for him not to play with Doncic because he is the most ball-dominant player in the league. Luka also tends to yell at his teammates at times when he gets frustrated, so it isn’t always a pleasant experience to play with him. He even admitted it could be a bit difficult to play with him on the court when discussing his relationship with new teammate Christian Wood.
Luka Doncic on relationship with Christian Wood: "He doesn't get mad at me when sometimes I yell at him, and that's what I appreciate. … Sometimes it's hard to be with me on the court probably. I just want to win. He appreciates that, he never gets mad. … It's working great." pic.twitter.com/uAOIy6vnJB

“He doesn’t get mad if sometimes I yell at him and that’s what I appreciate. In the game, I am alive, sometimes it’s hard to be with me on the court probably. I just want to win. He appreciates that, he never gets mad. He listens to me, I listen to him, so it’s working great.”
At the end of the day, Wood realizes that all Doncic wants is to win games. Tensions are always so high on the court because of the high stakes involved, and not everyone is a Tim Duncan where they can just stay calm during those moments. Luka is quite expressive, and you just have to deal with it as a teammate.
Jason Kidd Admitted That The Mavericks Are Too Reliant On Luka Doncic
Doncic has been on an absolute tear recently and has led the Mavericks to a 6-game winning run. While we marvel at some of the numbers he is putting up, Mavs head coach Jason Kidd is worried about the workload on his superstar.
Kidd had stated earlier this season that he was very concerned about Luka’s usage rate, and while it has dropped a little bit since then, he still ranks second behind Giannis Antetokounmpo this season. After their latest win in this run over the San Antonio Spurs, Kidd once again said they’re asking too much from Doncic. The Slovenian needs more help, and it is up to his teammates to find a way to step up and help him out.
