Luka Doncic has proven to the world that he is one of the most elite talents in basketball right now. His game is amazing to watch as Doncic can effortlessly control the pace of the game with the ball in his hand. His passes are a delight to watch and he has one of the smoothest step back jumpers in the world right now. However, he has habits that make watching him less than enjoyable.

One of the biggest issues with Luka is his habit of not agreeing with referees. Doncic has been seen getting into arguments with referees multiple times in his young career and the same is continuing at EuroBasket. His father, Sasa Doncic, recently spoke about Luka’s referee habits in an exclusive interview with BasketNews.

Who knows? You have players who waste energy like that. But we also have players who fuel themselves with it. You have players who feel comfortable talking to opponent players, coaches, fans, and teammates. Obviously, Luka likes it. (h/t BasketNews)

Will Luka Doncic Alienate Fans By Complaining Too Much On The Court?

Doncic complaining on the court is one of the biggest criticisms of the viewing experience of him on the court. A viewer could find themselves agreeing with some of the fouls that don’t get called on Doncic. But Luka argues almost every time there is contact with him, even though he did say he will not do it as much in the future.

The 2022 Playoffs were marked by Luka not getting into as many tiffs with the referees because of the stakes involved in playoff basketball. An ejection or technical could ruin the Dallas Mavericks game plan and the coaching staff did a great job of reeling Luka in.

From what we have seen at EuroBasket, Luka is bound to get into a few arguments with the referees during the NBA season. It could alienate fans that tend to focus on the actions of a player on the court. For someone who wants to watch really technical and skillful basketball being played, Luka will still be one of the best players they can watch in the modern NBA.
