Max Kellerman Says LeBron James Is The Greatest Point Guard Of All Time, Not Magic Johnson

2 Min Read

Max Kellerman has made a bold claim about LeBron James and his status among the greatest point guard in NBA history. As you may know, the King has been considered a point-forward during his career, playing as a pure point guard with the Los Angeles Lakers in the past couple of seasons.

That has changed this year, but still, people label him as one of the greatest at that position. The ESPN analyst is one of those, and he recently made a case for Bron, even putting him above Magic Johnson on the all-time list.

While discussing the top 5 point guards in the league, Kellerman picked James as the best PG in the league right now. Moreover, he said the King was the best in league history, overcoming another Lakers legend (1:24).

“Even LeBron in decline is better than anyone else. Maybe. But they’re gonna prove it in the playoffs. Harden’s gonna prove it in the playoffs. (…) LeBron, I’ve seen him shut down Derrick Rose at MVP level. I’ve seen LeBron shut down elite guards in playoffs games. Everyone on my list defends backcourt players routinely, initiates the offense and is the primary ball-handler playmaker. I think LeBron James is not only the greatest point guard today, but in fact, he’s the guy who will replace Magic as the greatest point guard of all time. If you’re making your all-time list, you put LeBron at the point guard.”

That is a very interesting take from Kellerman, but it’s not crazy at all. Plenty of analysts and former players have stated that the right comparison for LeBron is Magic Johnson, not Michael Jordan.

It seems like the King has surpassed Johnson on the all-time list, but not everybody will agree with these comments.
