Michael Jordan is arguably the greatest NBA player of all time, a distinction he fought for on the court. However, his life after retirement allowed MJ to finally start truly indulging in the billion-dollar empire he created by being the GOAT.

Jordan has expensive tastes, whether it comes to the stakes of betting on the golf course or the premium cigars he enjoys. An expensive watch is something everyone with a lot of money gets, and Jordan is no different with the latest watch that he purchased for $60,000.

MJ scored the first limited-series watch from the John Player Special-themed collection from watchmaker de Bethune. The watch is called the DB27 Titan Hawk JPS, and MJ is one of 25 people to have bought the watch and the first one to receive it.

What Makes The Watch So Special?

MJ received this limited edition watch because he is an investor in WatchBox, a pre-owned watch retailer that acquired de Bethune. His watch is No. 23 out of 25, a nod to the jersey number Jordan established himself as the greatest basketball player ever with.

There’s something magic about the black-and-gold color combination, but it’s not the first time the livery of the legendary 1970s JPS Formula One Lotus racing team has been used on a sports watch. A Rolex John Player Special themed Daytona with a Paul-Newman style dial was produced back in the early ’70s in very limited quantities. De Bethune has now adopted the livery on its DB27 Titan Hawk JPS. The difference is that the DB27 is rigorously modern, with an in-house movement, and it thus stands apart from its vintage predecessors.

This is a limited edition of 25 pieces, priced at $60,000. (h/t Forbes)

Jordan has been linked to racing and Formula 1 before, having dinner with French driver Pierre Gasly prior to the 2022 Miami Grand Prix. His success in basketball and then with Jordan Brand has allowed Jordan to continue living a lavish lifestyle after retirement.
