It would not be a huge exaggeration to say that Michael Jordan is the main reason that Nike became the global powerhouse brand that it is today. When Nike was first starting, they couldn’t land big stars like Magic Johnson. Even MJ himself didn’t particularly want to take a meeting with them. But he did, and he ended up signing with them, and that changed the history of both basketball and business.

Charles Barkley once said that Michael Jordan is the GOAT because of what he was able to do with his shoes. His Air Jordan shoes were so iconic that even having fake ones meant everything to young kids, as Demar DeRozan can attest. And his success with his shoes led to him starting the Jordan brand with Nike, which has led to Mike becoming a billionaire.

The Jordan Brand Has Made $19 Billion In 5 Years For Nike

The Jordan brand releases some incredible new sneakers from time to time. And it’s not just about the GOAT anymore; they have started signing some of the most exciting young NBA superstars to begin their shoe lines. Luka Doncic is associated with the Jordan brand; his first shoe is already out. Zion Williamson is another that is working with them. And it’s no wonder that in just the last 5 years, they have brought in $19 billion in sales.

Since the day he signed with Nike, Michael Jordan has pulled in ridiculous figures for the company. In his first year, when the Air Jordan 1 was expected to bring in $3 million, the company closed at $130 million. The selling power he has in terms of just what his name means is incomparable. Michael Jordan being associated with sneakers is a recipe for unparalleled success.

The GOAT continues to grow richer as the years go on, having set himself up to be one of the wealthiest men in the world. He fulfilled his dream of owning an NBA franchise as well, although that has not gone as well as might have been expected. At least, even if the Charlotte Hornets fail to make the playoffs again, MJ can be satisfied knowing that the Jordan brand is still synonymous with massive success.
