NBA Fan Posts An Epic Video Of How Warriors Reacted When They Heard Draymond Green Wanted A Max Contract

3 Min Read

The NBA offseason is in full swing right now. With teams trying to become legitimate contenders or others trying to start a rebuild, the free agency is in a frenzy right now. One of the most intriguing teams to look at in the offseason though are the Golden State Warriors.

The defending NBA champions Warriors have had their championship core of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green for multiple years now. While superstars like Kevin Durant have come and gone, it has been the trio of Curry, Thompson, and Green who have been the true championship core of the Warriors.

With two years left in their contracts, both Thompson and Green are eligible for contract extension negotiation with the Dubs. Recently, it was revealed that 2017 DPOY Draymond Green was expecting a massive payday from the Warriors’ reportedly seeking a 5-year max-extension worth $164.2 million

Many NBA fans have been in constant debate about the recent developments. While some argue that Green deserves the money for his contributions to the team and his defensive displays, others think Green might not be worth the max. A Warriors fan recently though had an incredible meme to summarize the situation.

Posting a clip from popstar Drake’s famous hit God’s Plan’s music video, the fan had a reverse version of the clip where Drake, instead of offering the money, can be seen taking the money away, implying that the Dubs might be heading to a similar path.

Warriors fans certainly had some great reactions to the same. While some did support Green’s decision, others claimed he was not worth a max contract.

While there is no doubting in the capability of a player like Green, fans should keep in mind that the Warriors already have a massive wage bill. They might have won the championship, but that doesn’t exempt them from boasting the costliest roster in the league only increasing the existing luxury tax.

If the Warriors negotiate with Green and give him a max contract, this wage bill is going to increase exponentially and given that they can offer this money to younger players like Andrew Wiggins and Jordan Poole, it is highly unlikely that we will see any contract negotiations this offseason.

Green still has two seasons in his contract, though. It will be interesting to see how much the Dubs value the former DPOY.
