  • Jordan Poole was traded to the Wizards this offseason
  • Poole now forms an intriguing duo with Kyle Kuzma
  • NBA fans tried to come up with a nickname for the new duo

Jordan Poole and Kyle Kuzma have formed one of the NBA’s new notable duos this offseason on the Washington Wizards. As is tradition, every duo needs a nickname, and fans were asked to come up with the best one for Poole and Kuzma.

One came up with a brilliant nickname, as a pool needs a jacuzzi, “Poole Boy and Ja-KUZ-Zi.”

Another fan shared quite a brutal one, “California Rejects.”

A fan used their inconsistencies on the court to come up with an interesting nickname, “Icey hot. They either on fire or suck”

One went with their skin tone for some inspiration, “The light-skinned brothers of destruction gonna be so much fun in DC.”

A fan quite simply combined their names and the result was quite something, “Poozma.”

I’d give full marks to “Poole Boy and Ja-KUZ-Zi.” It might not be the funniest one of the lot, but it’s really quite smart. Someone probably needs to tell the two of them that the perfect nickname has indeed been found.

Jordan Poole Has Taken Up A Leadership Role In Washington

Poole played for arguably the best-run organization in the NBA for the first four seasons of his career, and he is now joining what many might term as one of the more poorly run ones. The Wizards have failed to win a playoff series in the last six seasons, and have failed to even make the postseason in four of their last five campaigns.

The former Golden State Warrior wants to change their fortunes, and Poole has now taken up a leadership role with the Wizards. He and Kuzma organized a minicamp for their teammates, and Poole has a vision for how they can build a championship culture.

The 24-year-old believes it all starts with chemistry, and playing for your teammates, not just with them. While that sounds great, it is going to take some time to build that culture in Washington.

How Good Can The Wizards Be In 2023-24?

In Poole and Kuzma, the Wizards have two borderline stars who are capable of scoring at a high rate. The latter had the best season of his career in 2022-23, averaging 21.2 points, 7.2 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 0.6 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game.

Poole, meanwhile, averaged 20.4 points, 2.7 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.3 blocks per game for the Warriors. With him getting a bigger role in Washington, those numbers are expected to go up as well.

Having two 20-point scorers is great, but the problem is that the Wizards don’t have a whole lot else. Tyus Jones is a solid point guard who can help both Kuzma and Poole flourish, but that’s about it.

They acquired Bilal Coulibaly on draft night and while he has some potential, it is going to take a while before he starts contributing at a high level. All that leaves me with a rather simple conclusion, that the Wizards are going to be average in 2023-24.

They went 35-47 in each of the last two seasons, and I expect a similar record this time around as well. They’ll probably be in the mix for that final play-in spot, but I don’t expect them to make much noise.
