The 2021-22 NBA season was one to forget for the Los Angeles Lakers. They were an absolute disaster on the court for the most part and failed to even make it to the play-in spots. Still, there was a great deal of hesitancy for much of that season to completely write them off and it seems to be the case now as well.

The Lakers currently find themselves at 26-32 this season and they are, in fact, one game worse off than they were at this point in the previous campaign when they were 27-31 after 58 games. That team would fall off soon after and the hope is that this iteration can somehow go on a positive run after the moves they pulled off on deadline day.

They saw a great result in their first game after the deadline, as they beat the Golden State Warriors on the road but followed it up by getting blown out by the Portland Trail Blazers. There are only 24 games left now and when Legion Hoops on Twitter asked whether the Lakers will make it in, NBA fans were quite split.

"If darvin ham is still employed by the Los Angeles lakers next month then no"

"17-7 is reasonable with everyone healthy"

"we have LeBron James"

"I have more hope on the Thunder getting in than the lakers"

"No, you can not convince me they will have a better record than the clippers, wolves, pels, warriors, or thunder and with the way dames been playing the blazers will have a better record and the jazz will also probably have a better record"

"They are going to have to go minimum 16-8 which ain’t happening with all the rest Bron is taking"

"they might make the play in but not the 8th seed"

"The most media attention of any 13th seed in history. Short answer is 'No'."

"Yes if AD and Bron healthy"

"Play in is unfortunately the best we can hope for I think"

"HELLZ NO . ive watched so many games this yr and they havent shown anything to prove that they could even sniff .500, nor less get in top 8. Still holding out hope but sh** hurts"

"They’re not even going to make the play in."

"If we get peak ad back - yes. If we don’t get peak ad back - no."

"they will get in"

"They getting first-class tickets to Cancun"

"Not if AD and LJ continue to sit!"

"The West is wide open (weak for the most part). They should definitely slide in easily. That team is way more talented again."

"Hell no. Worst coach in the league. Regroup in the off-season. Injures etc"

"Yes but barely but they have to start now with winning they need a 10 game winning streak"

"Hell no. AD back to being soft, LeBron body breaking down, and Ham is clueless with his rotations. They’ll have a decent second half stretch with easier schedule but not getting in."

At the end of the day, it will come down to LeBron James and Anthony Davis. If they both can play most of these 24 games, then the Lakers have a shot at that 10th seed. Davis had also said after the Lakers made all those additions that it will come down to him and LeBron, but the worry is that he hasn't been great recently.

Anthony Davis Thinks The Lakers Can Still Finish In The Top 10

Davis, for his part, is still confident they will make it in but he admitted they had to speed up the process of integrating their new additions. While that would definitely help, what would be a bigger help would be if he can start playing better.

Since returning from injury, Davis is averaging 21.9 PPG on 45.8% shooting from the field, which is just not good enough. It is understandable that he needs a bit of time to get back to his best but the Lakers don't have enough time left and if he doesn't turn it around soon, they are doomed.
