Tracy McGrady is one of the most celebrated former NBA players ever. He was a 7-time All-Star in his prime and led the league in scoring twice, but he didn’t make the NBA’s 75th-anniversary teams.

Injuries derailed McGrady’s career and cut it short, but even before then, he had his fair share of struggles in the postseason. He never made it out of the first round of the playoffs, even at his peak. And NBA fans on Reddit recently tried to decide which current NBA star is like McGrady

“There is no good comp because he’s the only star that’s ever been that good to have no playoff success.”

“Career-wise DeMarcus Cousins. Someone who is seen as top in his position but hasn’t seen any post-season success.”

“Paul George, although he had more playoff success by a big margin.”

“Prime Tracy McGrady was better than every single one of the guys mentioned here. He was a tier above PG. multiple tiers above Bradley Beal, DD, and Cousins.”

“Demar DeRozan would be my suggestion. A prolific scorer and amazing dunker.”

Damian Lillard, almost down to a T.”

“Maybe AD before his Lakers trade, but even he won a playoff series.”

“Bradley Beal, without the bouncing around to different teams.”

“Donovan Mitchell maybe.”

“McGrady was in debate for best player in the world at his peak and was most often compared to Kobe. The closest comparison today would be someone like Harden.”

“Karl Anthony Towns. Great regular season player with awesome stats but hasn’t won anything in the playoffs.”

“There is no one like T-Mac in the modern game, period. A lot of you didn’t watch him play and it shows.”

Fans threw a lot of answers around, but it’s safe to say that Tracy McGrady’s career was unique in a lot of ways. He was a player that averaged 26.9 points, 6.6 rebounds, 5.4 assists, and 1.5 steals over seven seasons in his prime, and not many current NBA stars who aren’t in the Top 75 of all time can say that.

Tracy McGrady Was Dominating A Young LeBron James In His Prime

Tracy McGrady is perhaps the best example of fans overrating playoff success. It’s hugely important, but it also depends on teams, and McGrady was really good without ever enjoying any playoff success. He was so hardcore that he was taking on and beating a young LeBron James in his prime

He was also regularly compared to Kobe Bryant, who he shared a special relationship with. The only current player that is that good offensively without winning too much is James Harden. That is the closes thing to the right answer to this question.
