Free agency is always a fascinating time of the year as NBA fans try to see if their team gained any top players or retained the ones that broke out in prior seasons.
It’s hard to describe winning in free agency, although addressing roster needs is the primary benchmark, with relevant retentions and valuable contracts being other parameters to judge any franchise. And fans on Reddit recently discussed which team is doing the best on that front this offseason.

The Los Angeles Lakers re-signed Austin Reaves, D’Angelo Russell, and Rui Hachimura on team-friendly deals while adding Gabe Vincent, Taurean Prince, Cam Reddish, and Jaxson Hayes for depth. It’s safe to say that Rob Pelinka has put his team among the winners.

The Phoenix Suns had the impossible challenge of working around their limited cap space to put a roster around Devin Booker, Kevin Durant, and Bradley Beal. They managed to get Yuta Watanabe, Drew Eubanks, and Keita Bates-Diop while reacquiring Damion Lee and Josh Okogie. Fans seem to rate their activity.

The Houston Rockets were big spenders in free agency, handing out deals worth well over $200 million, signing Fred VanVleet, Dillon Brooks, and Jock Landale among others. And while some of these might seem like overpays, they did make the Rockets significantly better than last season.

A lot of players got paid in free agency, and the total amount in signed contracts exceeded $2 billion on Day 1. And no other agency thrived as much as Klutch Sports, with one fan joking that Rich Paul won free agency.

Kendrick Perkins Thinks The Lakers Won Free Agency
The Los Angeles Lakers have managed to retain all their core pieces around LeBron James and Anthony Davis and added some more interesting ones like Gabe Vincent and Cam Reddish. The team is looking stacked for a deep playoff run next season, and Perkins believes the franchise is winning free agency.
“This means that Rob Pelinka is doing his thing right now,” Perkins said on ESPN. “The Lakers right now, I know it’s early, they are winning in this free agency. They are winning right now.”
While a lot of the main free agents are off the board, there are many moves yet to be made. Damian Lillard being traded could set off a series of moves across the league, and other teams are working on deals in the background. Some teams may have done well in early free agency but an overall grade for the offseason is yet to be assigned to any team.
