NBA free agency kicked off yesterday, and many players and teams got to work in order to build their future. A massive number of big names were able to secure massive deals for themselves heading into the new season. And just on the first day of free agency, the NBA crossed a massive threshold in terms of the value of deals.
NBA analyst Keith Smith pointed out on Twitter that the NBA free agency on the first day has crossed the $2 billion mark in terms of new deals. This includes 45 total new deals, with 39 new contracts, and 6 contract extensions.
We passed the $2B mark in new money agreed to and signed so far this NBA offseason:

Out of these 45 deals, there have been several three-figure contracts agreed to, including Draymond Green, Kyrie Irving, Fred VanVleet, and Jerami Grant among many others. While this threshold being crossed so early is a good sign, fans should not expect more big-money deals like this to occur in the rest of the free agency period.
Which Star Could Be The Next To Get Paid?
The NBA still has a lot of free agents and players who are up for extensions. For example, Austin Reaves, a player who really came into prominence with the Los Angeles Lakers, is due for a max extension. The Lakers have already made an offer to him, but he could get even more from other teams, but the Lakers have the right to match.
A lot of fans have weighed in on several deals. Especially Fred VanVleet, with many fans claiming that his getting a 3-year, $130 million contract is a massive overpay. Regardless of what one thinks, VanVleet will be thrilled about securing such a massive contract.
Rich Paul has been making a lot of moves, as the CEO of Klutch Sports secured $390 million in separate contracts for his clients. Could there be more massive contracts for players in the NBA? We will have to see as free agency continues.
