  • Lakers and Suns matchup has been scheduled for opening night
  • The game will feature LeBron vs Durant for the first time since 2018
  • Fans are ecstatic over the highly anticipated matchup

It’s been over five years since the last matchup between LeBron James and Kevin Durant. Back then, in the 2018 NBA Finals, James was in his last season as a Cavalier while KD was still dominating with Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors.

To date, that was the last time LeBron and Durant played each other in a real NBA game but it may not be the last. As part of the league’s schedule release this week, they unveiled the opening night matchups for next season, which will include a battle between the Lakers and Suns on October 26th.

Assuming both players are healthy and ready to go for opening night, it will be the first time in years that fans get to see the matchup, and excitement levels couldn’t be higher.

The history between Durant and LeBron is extensive. As two of the best wing players of the modern era, Durant and LeBron had many battles in their early years, including in the 2012 Finals when LeBron won his first title over Durant and the OKC Thunder.

For Durant, he was seemingly always fighting to keep pace with LeBron, who was considered the superior player for over 10+ years. This October, however, things could be different as Durant will have the chance to finally prove he’s better than the King, who turns 39 this December.

The Suns and Lakers Are Vying For Control In The West

Following a trip to the Conference Finals in May, the Lakers proved they still have what it takes to come out of the West so they are coming into next season with ambitious goals. Meanwhile, in Phoenix, the presence of KD, Booker, and Bradley Beal has put them squarely in contention for the championship.

Next season, expect both the Suns and Lakers to be major players in the West and it’s likely that the play of Durant and LeBron will dictate which team comes out on top.

For the fans, though, it’s just nice to see two of this generation’s greatest players take the court again to battle it out like old times. With four championships to his name, LeBron is winning the accolade count so far, but KD still has time to make up some ground…
