When it’s all said and done, LeBron James’ jersey will be hanging in the rafters of multiple NBA teams. For starters, he is sure to get his jersey retired by the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Miami Heat.

But with the Lakers, James has worn both #23 and #6, so there is always a doubt the King will get both jerseys retired by the iconic NBA franchise. The general consensus around that is that LeBron will get his #23 jersey retired for winning a ring with the team. But the fans believe he still needs to win another NBA title to get his #6 jersey retired by the Lakers.

Comments have been rewritten for clarification:

“For starters, LeBron needs to win one with the #6 jersey,” a fan pointed out.

“That’s the only thing left. LeBron and Davis have already met the threshold for the Lakers to retire #23 and #3. The Lakers have retired the number of every single player who has won us a title while they played at an All-NBA caliber that season. LeBron and Davis did that in 2019-20.

If LeBron were to win another title for us while wearing #6 then he’d likely get that number retired as well. Folks may not approve, but that would track with how the Lakers have retired jerseys in the past.

The real question is how much LeBron would need to do to get a statue outside staples or whether Pau would receive a statue,” a fan provided a detailed explanation.

“There’s 0 chance LeBron gets both jerseys retired, lol. If he doesn’t win a ring in #6, it’ll be 23. Otherwise, it’ll be whichever number he was with us longer,” a fan gave his honest thoughts on the debate.

“Kobe had 2 HOF careers with numbers #8 and #24, I doubt LeBron gets both retired with the Lakers. #6, in general, I believe, is being retired by the NBA in honor of Bill Russell,” one fan pointed out.

“Win another championship for the Lakers, but let’s be honest with ourselves, Jeanie is going to retire LeBron’s jersey. He’s LeBron James; he won a championship and broke the all-time scoring record in the purple and gold,” a fan claimed.

Most fans thought winning another NBA championship may increase James’ chances of getting both of his numbers retired by the Lakers.

But as pointed out by a couple of fans, the NBA has already retired #6 in honor of late legend Bill Russell. Keeping that in mind, LeBron should at least get his #23 jersey retired by the Purple and Gold.

Does LeBron James Deserve To Get His Jersey Retired By The Lakers?

Getting your jersey retired by any NBA team is one of the greatest honors for a player in the league. On top of that, receiving that honor from the Los Angeles Lakers – a legendary franchise – is an even bigger honor.

We gave a detailed analysis by comparing James’ career with the Lakers to that of Wilt Chamberlain to provide an answer to that question.

Wilt’s #13 jersey is hanging in the rafters, and that’s why we believe LeBron James should at least get his #23 jersey retired. However, there is still a lot of uncertainty regarding whether his #6 jersey will get the same honor or not.
