• James Harden called Daryl Morey a liar in China to accelerate his path out of the Philadelphia 76ers

• Harden requested a trade in July after accepting a $36 million player option

• Ramona Shelbourne believes Harden is going to make the 76ers uncomfortable until he’s moved

The James Harden trade saga is going to attract everyone’s attention until the NBA season is close to resuming. Harden hasn’t gotten his requested trade in seven weeks, with the 76ers looking to not move on due to a lack of good offers.

This led to Harden calling Daryl Morey a liar in China, something that marks the opening of an exit strategy for the former MVP, according to Ramona Shelbourne.

“This is just the beginning of what James Harden is going to do to make life very uncomfortable for the Philadelphia 76ers going into training camp. The expectation with Harden, they did this with Ben Simmons where he didn’t show up to camp and left money on the table, that’s not gonna happen with James Harden.”

Daryl Morey is a hard man to beat in situations like this. He held on to Ben Simmons for over six months after his trade request to ensure he got a valuable player like James Harden in return. Well, now that valuable player seems to be giving the 76ers the same headache Simmons gave in the summer of 2021.

Differences Between James Harden And Ben Simmons’ Situation

James Harden averaged 21.0 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 10.7 assists last season but had a disappointing playoff as the 76ers were dumped out in the second round yet again. He doesn’t want out for on-court reasons, it’s purely to secure his financial future after not getting an extension with the 76ers despite alleged promises being made last summer.

Simmons had a mental health breakdown with treatment from the 76ers fans, and his fear of shooting finally caught up to him in the playoffs. He also wasn’t on an expiring contract like Harden, so the 76ers had more control over his situation.

Even if you don’t want to ‘lose’ a trade, is it worth keeping a locker room cancer around just so the GM can have a moral victory? Daryl Morey needs to evaluate his role in this situation and move on before his track record of poor choices leads to him losing Joel Embiid for the franchise.
