With the year coming to an end, there is an urge among many to look back at the year that was. With the new year approaching, it offers a new beginning for several people. But it does make us remember what we all witnessed this year. And NBA fans were doing the same.

As revealed by Statmuse, Giannis Antetokounmpo was the most Tweeted-about player of 2021. Stephen Curry, LeBron James, Chris Paul, and Nikola Jokic followed in that order to round out the top 5.

Giannis being on top of the list comes as no surprise. 2021 was the culmination of Giannis’ 8-year journey to the NBA championship. After winning 2 MVPs, and a Defensive Player Of The Year, Giannis added an NBA championship and Finals MVP to his resume, and established himself as one of the greatest players of all time.

As for Stephen Curry, he has been spectacular almost the entire year. He made a push to be the MVP last season, even leading the NBA in scoring. And he is doing the same this year in terms of the MVP race, playing some of the best basketball of his career as of this writing.

Unfortunately for James, he might be the only player on the list who was trending for the wrong reasons. He spent a great deal of time this year on the shelf and got knocked out in the first round. But his movie Space Jam 2 was very successful and would have gotten him a lot of mentions.

Chris Paul made his first NBA Finals this year. And while the veteran point guard wasn’t able to lead the Suns past the Milwaukee Bucks, it was still an example of just how good he is, as he joined a fledgling Suns team and transformed them into a championship contender in the course of a season.

Nikola Jokic became NBA MVP this season, thanks to his spectacular season with the Denver Nuggets. And while he couldn’t help the Nuggets get past the Suns, it was still a massive season for The Joker, as he established himself as one of the elite players in the league.

Perhaps next year’s list will feature a whole new list of players. A lot of that will depend on how the NBA season ends, and who will end up winning the NBA championship next season.
