Allen Iverson On His Iconic Crossover Against Michael Jordan: “No. 23 Was On The Court, But After That Game He Was Gonna Know Who No. 3 Was”

Allen Iverson has one of the most iconic plays in NBA history, but not because of the move itself, but the victim of it. The Philadelphia 76ers legend was never afraid of any challenge, no matter who was in front of him.

In March of 1997, a then-rookie Iverson would shock the world when he crossed over none other than the GOAT, Michael Jordan. AI grew up idolizing Black Jesus, but he had to make sure he let Jordan know who he was, and did it a great way.

During a 76ers-Bulls game in 1997, The Answer went against Jordan one-on-one. He dribbled the ball a couple of times, trying to find the perfect time to make his move on No. 23. He crossed over Jordan before making a mid-range, sending the people in the arena into a frenzy.

It’s been 25 years since that moment and people still remember how brave Iverson was for even trying that. He just tried to make himself known, and what better opportunity than against the greatest player to ever live?

During a verzuz battle with Tracy McGrady, AI opened up about that move, saying that he knew who he was facing in that game, but MJ also learned about No. 3 and what he could do on the court.

“That’s when I was a puppy, and I was playing against the greatest to ever play the game. I was gonna start out with that one because I was gonna introduce myself to the world and let them know that — obviously, No. 23 was on the court, but after that game he was gonna know who No. 3 was. So, that’s when I was a puppy before I turned into a Great Dane.”

Flash forward, we sure know who Allen Iverson is and what he did during his incredible career. He was the heart and soul of the Philadelphia 76ers during the 2000s, constantly showing all his quality on the court. Sadly, he never won a championship, but the memories he left in the league will never be forgotten.

He’s one of the most talented players to set foot on an NBA court, and somebody with a great personality, which often got him in trouble. He knew he would be great in the association and made sure to make an impact as soon as he landed. Even though Jordan wasn’t happy with that play, he knows AI did it to earn his respect.
