The Boston Celtics fans haven’t forgiven Kyrie Irving, even if it’s four years since he moved on and joined the Brooklyn Nets. And they proved their point by stomping on his Celtics jersey ahead of the game.

The TD Garden can be an unforgiving place, and the guard bore the full brunt of their taunts and jeers in the Nets’ embarrassing 139-96 loss to the Celtics. With the game all but done and dusted for Irving and the Nets in the fourth stretch, chants of ‘Kyrie sucks!’ erupted in the building.

It was tough to be Irving, especially in that situation, and in addition to his team losing, he’d also have to deal with the savage trolling and disrespect — one of which was having his jersey stomped on.

Prior to the 2018 season, Irving had assured his fans of returning to Boston, only to sign with the Nets during the offseason after his contract expired. It’s not been a happy welcome back to Boston for Irving since then. He reasoned that he left Boston as he wanted to return closer to his home in New Jersey.

But the fans haven’t forgiven him just yet.

Kyrie Irving Calls Out The Nets After Their Blowout Loss To The Celtics

It was an upset Kyrie Irving who spoke to the reporters after the loss and stated that the Celtics were very clear in their approach when they hosted Brooklyn.

He outlined that their team was just in the way of Boston’s rampant run, and hoped that the team would prepare for future games with a winning mindset.

Per ClutchPoints:

“It’s clear as day that they want to win the championship and they’re not wasting any time in the regular season. Tonight it felt like we were just one of those teams in the way. We can’t be just one of those teams in the way. We gotta be one of those teams that stands up to them.”

The Nets are hamstrung without the services of Kevin Durant. The veteran has been sidelined since his MCL sprain against the Miami Heat last month and is reportedly targeting a return before the All-Star break.

Next up, Brooklyn locks horns against the Washington Wizards followed by a clash against the Los Angeles Clippers.
