The Boston Celtics aren’t just a team studded with bonafide superstars. It appears that their doppelganger comparisons are with some mighty renowned names, and some of them, safe to say, are hilarious at best.

In a recent segment of ‘I Was Once Mistaken For,’ some of the Boston players recollected who they were thought to be. In all fairness, some of them are pretty close and uncanny.

Take for instance, Jayson Tatum was once mistaken for Los Angeles Lakers superstar, Anthony Davis. It may have something to do with their beards, while Blake Griffin actually bore a close resemblance to what he describes as “a prime Khris Humphries.”

Robert Williams III was often identified as Nigerian-American baller, Semi Ojeleye, due to his dreadlocks, while Derrick White was called Kyle Anderson a few times. Marcus Smart was mistaken for NFL star Jalen Ramsey, while Malcolm Brogdon…wait for it…was misidentified as former POTUS Barrack Obama!

Luke Kornet as Joe Flacco and Al Horford as Dwayne Johnson make for a solid case of mistaken identity. The charm, the smile, and the musculature does justice for Horford as Johnson. Lastly, Sam Hauser was reportedly called Gordon Hayward for a major portion of last season.

The Boston Celtics Are The Team To Beat This Season

They may have been victims of mistaken identity, but clearly, the team, led admirably by interim head coach Joe Mazzulla, has been the side to beat this season.

The Celtics are primed to make the playoffs and are one of the bonafide contenders to lift the title. At the time of writing, they come off a close 121-118 OT win against their last year’s NBA Finals rivals, the Golden State Warriors.

Speaking about the win, Tatum downplayed the “revenge game” angle. Per ESPN:

“The fact of the matter is we lost. We lost the championship. No one win — we can’t bring that back. We can’t go back in time and change that. So we didn’t look at this as a rematch of the Finals,” he said. “It’s just one game.”

Boston pipping the Warriors now puts them at 34 wins this season. They are placed right at the top of the Eastern Conference standings and have lost just 12 games.

They have a chance to cement their position further when they take on the Toronto Raptors and the Orlando Magic next.
