The Los Angeles Lakers have spent quite a long time chasing Kyrie Irving if reports are to be believed. For the last few weeks, talk has revolved around the Lakers and Nets making a trade involving Kyrie and Russell Westbrook, but so far, it has not happened. The idea of Kyrie Irving pairing up is an exciting prospect for Lakers fans, but the latest reports suggest that the Nets want more picks than LA is seemingly willing to offer.
In any case, talk around the situation has not ceased, trade rumors about the Brooklyn stars are what have dominated the NBA news cycle. And one of the insiders that has been quite vocal this offseason is ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, whose insight on the Rudy Gobert situation has catapulted his status among NBA fans.
Windhorst addressed what is going on between Irving and the Lakers on ESPN in a hilarious manner on Tuesday, comparing Kyrie to a slice of pizza.
“I will continue to say, this is not a buffet where they have a choice among 6 or 7 different star players who would better fit them. Would it be better to have a no-ego, low-stress superstar like Steph Curry to come be on their team? I think anybody would choose Steph Curry over Kyrie Irving. They don’t have that. It’s the end of the night. There’s one piece of pizza sitting there. Either go hungry or take that piece of pizza. And in this case, it’s not a bad piece of pizza.”
While Windhorst’s analogy may be hilarious, there is also truth to what he is saying. The Lakers are under pressure to bounce back after a disappointing season, and Irving is the only star-caliber player they are likely to get their hands on. It remains to be seen if they can make it happen, but this is the most realistic deal the Lakers can swing to immediately improve their star power.
