Luka Doncic is one of the top superstars in the game today, and he is known for being a highly versatile offensive engine. Currently, Luka Doncic is averaging 33.0 PPG, 8.3 RPG, and 8.7 APG for the Dallas Mavericks.
There are many who are high on Luka Doncic’s potential. It seems as though Portland Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups is one of those people, and he recently explained why Luka Doncic is a “generational talent.”

“You double team him, he’s so big he sees over it. A guy comes at him kind of out of position on the double team, he draws a foul. Put a big on him, he can get by you to the basket. Put a small, he’s backing down on him. He just can do it all. He’s one of those guys whose IQ is extremely high and his skill-set matches that. That’s why I think he’s so great… He’s just one of those generational talents.”
There is no doubt that it’s hard for a defense to completely take Luka Doncic out of the game due to his versatility offensively.
The Dallas Mavericks Need To Make Trades To Maximize Luka Doncic
Though Luka Doncic has been fantastic individually this year, the Dallas Mavericks as a whole have been subpar. They are currently 15-14 on the season, which has put them as the 9th seed in the Western Conference.
Perhaps the Dallas Mavericks need to make trades to improve their roster around Luka Doncic. A recent report suggested that the team is interested in Detroit Pistons sharpshooter Bojan Bogdanovic.
Bogdanovic’s strong play has led numerous playoff-caliber teams around the league to express interest in trading for him, including the Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat, Dallas Mavericks, and Atlanta Hawks, among several others, league sources told HoopsHype. Thus far, Detroit has been unwilling to engage in trade talks for the 33-year-old forward. Rival executives, however, are hopeful that stance changes closer to the deadline if Detroit continues to remain in the cellar of the East, with Cade Cunningham expected to miss the rest of the season.
It remains to be seen if the Dallas Mavericks do end up getting Bojan Bogdanovic, as a number of other teams clearly want to make a move for him as well. The team has notably been linked to Derrick Rose as well.
Though trading for complementary players could help the Dallas Mavericks improve the overall state of their team, at some point, they will have to get Luka Doncic a true co-star to get far in the playoffs. Hopefully, that will happen in the near future.
