It was just last month that the Phoenix Suns had the best record in the Western Conference. Sure, they weren’t as dominant as they were to start off the regular season in 2021-22, but they seemed on their way to finishing near the top of the standings at the very least.

Things have gone south in a hurry though as they have fallen apart since Devin Booker went down with an injury. The Suns have lost 6 of their last 7 games, with the New York Knicks blowing them out 102-83 last time out. Deandre Ayton expressed his disappointment after the game and he had some strong words for his teammates.

via NBC Sports:

“I don’t even know what’s going on. For me, I could tell you this — I’m not used to the no fight in us. I’m used to us being down a hundred and we still are going to pull out and win the game, or we still have that mentality like we’re about to win this game. Right now, we don’t have that, so that’s the only thing that’s going on throughout these games and why we’re losing. We just got to really lock In and fight. Right now, we can’t be thinking that somebody’s going to feel sorry for us or thinking somebody is going to save us — nobody is going to save us.”

That is a damning statement to make that the Suns have no fight in them. Their recent poor performances would certainly indicate that everything isn’t quite right at the moment. They are dealing with injuries but that is part and parcel of the game, so it can’t be too much of an excuse.

Devin Booker Is Still Weeks Away From A Return

The Suns have dearly missed their leading scorer but they only have themselves to blame for it. Booker had missed three games due to a hamstring injury but rushed back for a Christmas Day game against the Nuggets. He played just over 4 minutes and exited with a groin strain that was set to keep him out for a minimum of 4 weeks.

The Suns have shown no capability of winning games without him in recent times and they look set to keep sliding down the standings without him. They are now the 8th seed in the Western Conference and some dark clouds are hovering over the franchise.
