De'Anthony Melton Has Been Traded To The Philadelphia 76ers For Danny Green And The 23rd Pick In 2022 NBA Draft
The Philadelphia 76ers have made a push to improve their team by picking up pieces of the standout Memphis Grizzlies roster from the 2021-22 season. Guard De'Anthony Melton has been traded to Philly for Danny Green and the 23rd pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. Memphis is selecting David Roddy from Colorado State with the pick.
The 76ers have moved backup guard and veteran Danny Green who played in multiple positions for Philly. This trade has allowed the team to reinforce its guard rotation with Melton alongside James Harden and Tyrese Maxey. Green was also a standout shooter, so Philly will need a similar replacement through other moves in the off-season.
Green is a fantastic veteran to add to the Grizzlies roster, as he is one of the few non-Warriors players in the league with ample championship experience. David Roddy is a very strong young prospect and if there's any team that can extract the maximum out of him, it's Memphis.
The 76ers will be expected to make more moves through the off-season. Green was a player they played on their wing, and Melton isn't as proficient in wing-play as Green was. Ideally, they add that piece through the rumored trade of Tobias Harris and Matisse Thybulle, but that leaves them very bare on the wing.
Picking a young wing and versatile wing like E.J. Liddell in this position could have been an option for the 76ers, but they preferred the proven NBA player in Melton. How this all plays out on the court will be interesting.
Memphis had already made a move earlier to acquire the 19th pick from the Minnesota Timberwolves for Jake LaRavia, a power forward coming from Wake Forest. These picks are further bolstering the young core in Memphis that still can develop over the next few seasons and compete at a high level.
