Dejounte Murray, currently a guard for the New Orleans Pelicans and a former beloved member of the San Antonio Spurs, surprised fans across the internet with an unexpected act of generosity. On Tuesday, Murray took to X (formerly Twitter) and posted:

“I FEEL LIKE GIVING 5 PEOPLE $2500 TODAY!!! DM5 Random Blessings”

True to his word, Murray delivered. Among the five lucky recipients was Spurs Culture, a popular San Antonio-based fan account that has long supported both the Spurs and Murray, even after his move to New Orleans.

But instead of keeping all the money, the fan behind the Spurs Culture account decided to pay it forward. In a follow-up post, they announced they’d be giving away $500 each to two more people:

“Dejounte blessed me with $2500 “

“I want to give 2 people $500. Give me one reason you or someone you know could use the money (DMs are open if you don’t want to share publicly).”

It was a touching ripple effect, a simple gesture by an NBA player leading to even more goodwill within a community that once cheered Murray nightly at the AT&T Center.

Murray, known for his gritty two-way play and leadership on and off the court, has always had a strong bond with the San Antonio fanbase. He spent the first six seasons of his career with the Spurs before being traded to the Atlanta Hawks and, more recently, joining the Pelicans.

Throughout his NBA journey, he’s been vocal about his humble beginnings and how the game helped transform his life. His charitable actions aren’t just a PR stunt, they reflect a deeper commitment to giving back and staying grounded.

Despite now suiting up in New Orleans, Murray continues to be a fan favorite in San Antonio. His act of kindness only solidified that legacy further. In an era where athlete generosity often gets buried under headlines of trades and drama, Murray’s giveaway reminded fans of the human side of the league.

Financially, the 27-year-old guard is in a comfortable position to be this generous. With a reported net worth of $20 million and career earnings already crossing the $108 million mark, Murray has made smart moves on and off the court.

His current contract with the Pelicans still runs for multiple years, ensuring future stability. But even so, it’s the gesture, not the dollar amount, that made waves online.

The impact of his tweet wasn’t just in the money given, but in the spirit it encouraged. Random strangers received life-changing sums. A longtime fan decided to share their own blessing. And thousands of others were reminded that kindness doesn’t need a reason.
