Dejounte Murray was recently traded to the Atlanta Hawks, an organization that is currently trying to compete for a championship after making a win-now move for him. While he will have to leave an elite franchise like the Spurs, Dejounte Murray will have a chance to compete in the playoffs with the Hawks and show his talent on the highest stage.

While there are times when players and franchises part ways on bad terms, it seems as though this isn’t the case for Dejounte Murray and the San Antonio Spurs. In his recent press conference with the Atlanta Hawks, Dejounte Murray admitted that the organization is “family forever” and pointed out that they didn’t want to see him “waste years” going through a rebuild.

San Antonio is a great organization… Right now, they didn’t want to see me waste years rebuilding and stuff. They want to see me win and the best for Dejounte, and I thank them for that a lot. That’s what makes our relationship special and family forever.

There is no doubt that trading Dejounte Murray was the right move for both him and the franchise. They sent him to a great situation, and hopefully, we see him take advantage of it. Dejounte Murray will be a difference-maker for the Hawks on both ends of the floor, and he can definitely take some of the offensive load off of Trae Young’s shoulders. In particular, he can provide rim pressure and midrange shot creation, an aspect that they have been missing outside of Trae Young.

The Atlanta Hawks also managed to retain John Collins in this deal, and there’s no doubt that they could be a dangerous team for years to come. The Atlanta Hawks made the Eastern Conference Finals during the 2021 playoffs, and perhaps they will be able to make them again with Dejounte Murray’s addition.
