Dillon Brooks Goes Off On Referees And Klay Thompson: “It Was A Circus”

Dillon Brooks was not happy with the refereeing and Klay Thompson's actions during the Grizzlies' Christmas loss to the Warriors.

The Memphis Grizzlies were raring to take a victory at the expense of the struggling Golden State Warriors to compound their struggles and show how the tables have turned since their playoff elimination. Even with Stephen Curry out, the game didn’t end up going the way the Grizz anticipated.

Despite an amazing night from Ja Morant, the Grizzlies couldn’t keep up with the Warriors in a chippy game. The refereeing has been widely criticized by fans, as there was no consistency between calls. Dillon Brooks was taunted by Klay Thompson, an act that could lead to a technical foul, but didn’t in this case. Brooks went off on Thompson and the referees after the game.

Dillon Brooks on the Klay Thompson taunt:

“Refs let it happen. He was doing it all game then they want to catch the bad guy. That’s wack to me. F-cking up calls and putting the wrong guys at the free-throw line. It was a circus. Should have had different refs.”

The NBA will probably fine Brooks for his comments against the referees. It’s happened before, and it could happen for Brooks as well. The Grizzlies did get the short end on the refereeing front at times, but their play outside of Morant just didn’t live up to the bright lights of Christmas.

Did The Memphis Grizzlies Underestimate The Western Conference?

There’s no doubt in the minds of fans that the Boston Celtics might be the best-constructed team in the league. Ja Morant openly admitted it and said that the Celtics are the only team that worries him before dismissing the entirety of the Western Conference.

The Grizzlies are 9-9 against the West after that loss, which would be good for the 9th-best record in Conference play in the West this year. The passion the Grizzlies show on the court is incredible and infectious. However, hubris is something that could be their downfall. They are young, surging, and exciting, but they don’t want to underestimate the opponents they face in this conference.

Any result outside reaching the NBA Finals will open the Grizz up for endless mocking, so they have a lot to play for.
