Doc Rivers On Ben Simmons: “I Want Him Back. He’s Terrific. He’ll Be Great.”

Ben Simmons Sends A Warning To Both Lakers And Nets: "We're Coming For The Past Champions, The Lakers... Obviously Brooklyn Has A Lot Of Talent. But At The End Of The Day, There's Only One Ball And You Gotta Play Defense Too."

A couple of weeks ago, Doc Rivers' response on whether Ben Simmons could be the starting point guard on a winning team raised a lot of controversies. If anything, it seemed like his own coach was taking a shot at him.

Needless to say, that, plus his subpar performances in the playoffs prompted plenty of trade rumors once again, and it's been said that the Philadelphia 76ers are fielding offers for him.

Nonetheless, now it seems that Rivers has backpedaled from those comments and that he doesn't want the former first-overall pick to leave his team:

“Ben’s great,” Doc Rivers told TMZ. “I want him back. He’s terrific. He’ll be great. I think he doesn’t need a lot of fixing. He’s gonna be great for us. He’ll be great.”

Maybe Rivers was just caught up in the heat of the moment and didn't mince his words. Maybe the front office told him to advocate in favor of Simmons to drive his trade value up.

Ben Simmons decided to skip the Olympics this summer to work on his craft and developing his skills, a decision that seems long-overdue as he hasn't improved significantly since his rookie season.

But whether he'll be able to showcase that new skillset as a member of the Philadelphia 76ers or not is yet to be seen, as there's still a chance that he's traded if they find some nice value in return.

According to recent reports, the Sixers will only consider moving Ben Simmons for an All-Star caliber player and they turned down an offer including Indiana's Malcolm Brogdon and a first-round pick.
