Despite all the drama around Ben Simmons and his refusal to return to the team, they have managed to be one of the top 2 teams in the Eastern Conference. Doc Rivers has done a terrific job with this team, who features an MVP candidate in Joel Embiid and a series of role players that have uplifted the squad’s level.

Players like Tyrese Maxey, Matisse Thybulle, Danny Green, Andre Drummond, and Seth Curry have shown they can help this team compete for important things no matter who misses a game. Curry and Rivers have a close relationship since they are family, which may have played a key role in Seth’s move to Philadelphia.

The Sixers visited the Dallas Mavericks on Friday night, and reporters didn’t wait to ask questions about Seth. He was traded from Dallas when Daryl Morey took over as Philly’s basketball of president operations. What was seen as a basketball move, seeing Curry’s 3-point shooting, turned out to be deeper than that, as Rivers joked saying he wanted to be close to his daughter, who is married to the Curry brother.

“I didn’t see crap in Seth. I just wanted to see my daughter more, see my grandkids. I mean, if he was a bum, I still got to see my grandkids,” Rivers told reporters ahead of the Mavs-Sixers duel.

It’s fair to say that Curry has played incredibly well, nothing like a bum. He has helped the Sixers with his 3-point shooting skills, becoming a threat for rivals. Seth is a solid player that can help this squad in their playoffs run. The journey hasn’t been easy, but the Sixers are a very good team that has excelled expectations in this campaign.

They could land another superstar in James Harden before the trade deadline strikes, which would bring plenty of benefits to the Sixers. Still, even if they fail to make this trade happen, Philadelphia is on the right track to make some noise in the postseason.
