The Los Angeles Lakers have made a number of moves over the past week, and all of them with the intent to improve the team and prepare for another title run.
And while the Purple and Gold have been the busiest team of the offseason, many fans haven’t exactly been huge supporters of their recent signings.
By adding guys like Dwight Howard, Carmelo Anthony, and Russell Westbrook, they drastically increased the age of the team, raising some questions about their durability and readiness for a long and competitive 82-game season.
Naturally, memes and jokes have been running rampant on social media, with multiple folks using the word “old” to describe the state of the franchise.
To those people, Dwight Howard shared the following response:
“We back. they calling us the ‘old Lakers.’ I’m ready to do some media. We ain’t old, we just experienced.”

Dwight, who helped the Lakers capture their 2020 title, has returned to the team after a one-year stint with the 76ers. Since his return to Los Angeles, Howard has gone public to express his excitement, insistent that he’s ready to win another trophy.
“It was very upsetting at first, not being able to return next season,” Howard told Harrison Faigen of Silver Screen & Roll. “… But I stayed happy, and now I’m back here with the Lake Show.”
So, Howard is glad to be back and has been quick to squash any negativity about his team or their new roster.
The question is, can they actually prove the doubters wrong, or is there some truth to the idea that they’re too old to win it all?
Perhaps the most concerning thing for L.A. is the status of their main star, LeBron James. At 36-years-old, he’s already past his prime and coming off a season where he experienced his most troubling health problems yet.
If he can stay healthy throughout the year, and for the playoffs, it will bode well for the Lakers’ chances in the end.
But if the Lakers fail to meet their goals, it would give some validation to all the people insisting this roster isn’t going to work. So, for their sake, the Lakers better hope they can find some success.
