Dwyane Wade recently had some terrifying health struggles recently. Speaking on his podcast, Wade revealed that in 2023, he discovered that he had a cancerous tumor in his kidneys. After the initial shock, Wade spoke to his doctors and opted to have surgery. The surgery was successful but required that 40% of his kidney be removed so that they could get rid of the tumor entirely and avoid the risk of it spreading.
“I went in to get myself checked out. I turned 40 years old… [In] the process of checking, like — ‘Why is my p*ss coming out slow, why is my stream ain’t powerful? Why is it a little weak?’. I’m asking these questions because my father went through something and I know that the man who birthed me is going through something, it’s possible that I may go through it…”
“In the midst of that, I went to the doctor to look for something else. But because I did the full body scan… They were able to see something that was on my right kidney. What I had on my kidney was a cyst, a tumor. But it wasn’t something that could biopsied, something they could test unless they went and surgically removed it…”
“Now I’m with the doctor and he says ‘You need to have kidney surgery. At that moment right there, obviously, I had a decision to make. I get to see everything, I ask all the questions. I go through multiple doctors, I send it to all the doctors, and I do not just go to one doctor…”
“I had a personal decision to make. If this is cancerous, you’re 41 years old, you probably need surgery because it’s something that needs to be removed so it doesn’t spread. I made a decision to have surgery on December 18th, 2023. My father was there to walk me to the hospital, my wife was there when I woke up.”
“There’s only two people you can have in a hospital. To find out at 41 years old, a pretty healthy guy, that I did have cancer, thank god that I did the surgery because the tumor was cancerous. I have one kidney, and I have another kidney that is 60%. They took 40% of my kidney to make sure they can get all of it. Because if it sits there on your kidney, it spreads and it takes more and more.”

This was obviously a terrifying situation for Wade and his family. For a man who is still very young, 41 at the time, Wade wants to live for a very long time. Discovering that you have a cyst that could give you cancer, a terminal illness is something that can rock anyone to their core.
Thankfully, the doctors were able to get the cyst removed. While it did cost Wade 40% of his kidney, he will consider that a small price to pay to ensure his long-term health, not just for him, but for his family.
We here at Fadeaway World would like to wish Dwyane Wade and his family the best of luck, and good health for as long as possible.
