James Harden’s career in the NBA over the last few seasons has been full of ups and downs. After giving everything he had in himself to the Houston Rockets, Harden finally had enough and forced a trade out of the Rockets. He ended up joining the Brooklyn Nets, but that experiment failed as well.
After the failed attempt at making a Big 3 with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, Harden once again requested a trade and, this time around, joined the Philadelphia 76ers. So far, Harden’s partnership with Joel Embiid has been going strong, as the 76ers are one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference.
But instead of being the primary superstar on the team, Harden has somewhat taken a backseat during his stint with the 76ers. Despite that, the Beard is averaging 22.0 PPG, 6.3 RPG, and 10.8 APG so far this season.
James Harden Says He Doesn’t Need Credit For His Achievements In The NBA
Since joining the 76ers, Harden has certainly taken a backseat, and it has somewhat resulted in fans and the media underestimating what James Harden is bringing to the table for the 76ers. But according to Ky Carlin of Sixers Wire, the 33-year-old is not impacted by that.
Via Sixers Wire:
“I don’t need the credit. I don’t really care. I guess people give credit to who they want to give credit to. You know what I mean? Like, they pick and choose who they want to give credit to. If I was to sit there and feel some type of way that I wasn’t getting any credit, I wouldn’t be doing a million other things that I’m supposed to be doing. I focus on what I can control. I go out there and do my job and try to be the best James Harden I can be.”
He added, “I guess you’re impacting the game in more than one way. So just trying to find ways to put my footprint on the game. Whether it’s scoring, whether it’s helping the bigs rebound, or being the facilitator I am. So, obviously, it’s a good thing. You don’t ever want to take them for granted, but it means you’re impacting the game in more than one way.”
This isn’t the first Harden has made a comment about not getting credit for what he does. In fact, earlier this season, Harden also talked about not getting enough credit for taking a $14 million pay cut to help the 76ers in getting better role players.
At the end of the day, regardless of whether Harden gets credit or not, if he can win an NBA title with the 76ers, he will certainly feel a sense of accomplishment in his NBA career.
