Jayson Tatum has taken the next step in becoming a superstar during this playoff run. Tatum has played some incredible basketball in the playoffs against some of the best players in the NBA en route to the NBA Finals.

For Tatum, while he was close to the NBA Finals in the past, this is the first time he will be playing in the Finals. And the journey he has had to get here and what it means to him is something he discussed recently.

Ahead of the NBA Finals, Jayson Tatum took part in a press interaction. Prior to the press interaction, Tatum talked about reaching the NBA Finals.

He noted that as a kid, he used to be very excited during this time of year to watch some of the best players in the NBA face off. And now that he has the opportunity to play on the same stage as some of his heroes, he understands the magnitude of the situation.

“Once we won the Eastern Conference Finals, it took me back when I was about 9 years old and I remember the excitement I had and now, 15/14 years later, I get an opportunity. It doesn’t get any bigger than this. I’m just trying to enjoy it and take it all in today.”

Jayson Tatum also talked about the relationship he shares with his co-star, Jaylen Brown, noting that while the two players are hungry and competitive, they understand that the larger goal is winning as a team, and they’ve been able to commit themselves to that goal.

The Celtics are one of the best defensive teams in the NBA. But their opponents, the Golden State Warriors, have been to the NBA Finals multiple times very recently. So it will be an exciting series, as either team can shock the other and win it all when all is said and done.
