Jeanie Buss Wants LeBron James To Feel Confident About The Lakers Winning Another NBA Championship: “He Has To Be Happy. I Want To Make Sure That He’s Happy.”

The Los Angeles Lakers are one of the most successful franchises in NBA history. They have won 17 NBA Championships in their long history and remain a center of attraction for superstar players.

But even a team of the Lakers' caliber can go through a rough patch. After winning the 2020 NBA title, the Purple & Gold has failed to play at that level in the last two seasons. Particularly in the 2021-22 NBA season, the team was simply bad.

Despite creating a superteam in the offseason by pairing up Russell Westbrook with the formidable duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis, the Lakers failed to qualify for the playoffs. As a result, there has been a lot of chatter about breaking up the superstar trio and starting over. Recently it has been reported that Phil Jackson, who is helping the Lakers in their search of a head coach, wants to trade LeBron James and Russell Westbrook

One can understand the reasoning behind potentially trading Russ as he had an underwhelming year. James was the best player on the team despite turning 37-years-old. It is true that he will soon retire from the league; he is still one of the best players in the NBA.

It seems Jeanie Buss, the president of the Los Angeles Lakers, has heard this chatter about trading James. Buss is apparently doing some damage control by making sure LeBron feels confident about this Lakers team and hopefully winning another title soon.

But that doesn't mean LeBron James is running the Los Angeles Lakers. Jeanie made it quite clear that she's the controlling owner of the team and that's the reality.

Via Los Angeles Times:

"I want him to feel confident in the team, that we have the pieces to win a championship. He has to be happy. ... I want to make sure that he's happy."

Buss added, "There’s no reason for me to think we can’t win with them (LeBron and AD). Something that I learned from Phil Jackson is that there’s always a path to success. … Sometimes it might be a little bit harder than other times … but you have to see the ability.”

It's good to know that Buss has James' back, amidst these trade rumors. Hopefully, if the Lakers keep the core intact, they can have a good season next time. She has been quite vocal about it as she believes that the Lakers can still win a championship without trading Russ. If they don't, this superteam experiment will certainly be labeled as a failure and the Lakers might go straight to the rebuilding phase once again.
