Klutch Sports is a sports agency that is noted for representing top-tier stars, like LeBron James and Anthony Davis. The agency was created by LeBron James' close friend, Rich Paul.
Due to the prominence that Klutch Sports has, many people believe that the players that they represent have a lot of power in their organizations, even having huge input on moves those franchises make.
LeBron James and Anthony Davis are both on the Los Angeles Lakers, and obviously due to both players being part of Klutch Sports, many believe that Klutch Sports "runs" the Los Angeles Lakers. However, Jeanie Buss has recently said that Klutch Sports doesn't have the "final say" on roster moves, and denied that they were "running the team". Bill Plaschke of the Los Angeles Times relayed the news.
She expressed loyalty to LeBron James and the desire to do whatever it takes to make him happy, but bristled when asked what every fan wants to know — do James and Klutch Sports run the Lakers?
“Do they have final say? No. Are they running the team? No, no, not at all,” said Buss. “I am controlling owner of the Los Angeles Lakers, I’m held accountable for every decision that’s made here.”
There's no doubt that a lot of teams consult their stars on the roster moves, but the ultimate decision lies with the front office and the owner of the franchise. It seems as though that is no different for the Los Angeles Lakers.
Hopefully, we see the Los Angeles Lakers get back to championship contention next season. There's no doubt that some moves will be required to do so. A Russell Westbrook trade isn't out of the question, but even beyond a hypothetical trade involving the point guard, they will need more moves to become a contender once again.
