Kevin Durant has had a good year in terms of basketball, bouncing back from an Achilles injury suffered during his time with the Golden State Warriors. During the 2020-21 NBA season with the Brooklyn Nets, Kevin Durant averaged 26.9 PPG, 7.1 RPG, and 5.6 APG, and later led Team USA to the gold medal in the Olympics. His performances this season have reminded the world that he is a top-tier superstar, and he has a very good claim to being the best player in the world.
JJ Redick is certainly one of the people who believe in Kevin Durant's status as the top player in basketball. On a recent episode of his podcast, "The Old Man and the Three", JJ Redick revealed his belief that Kevin Durant is a "cheat code" and suggested that nobody can replicate what he does on the court. (5:50)
I’m playing golf with a few hedge fund guys, Wall Street guys, these days. And all they want to talk is hoops. And every time they’re asking me who the best player is, who the three best guys are, if you were building a team tomorrow, who would you pick. We’re always having these conversations,” Redick said on the podcast. “And inevitably, Kevin’s name comes up, and I’m just like ‘He doesn’t count!’ He just doesn’t count cause he’s a cheat code and there’s no one on planet earth that can do what he does as efficiently as he does it.
I think when healthy, he is the best player in the NBA next season.
There is no doubt that Kevin Durant's midrange game is the best in the league, and that his shot creation ability is unparalleled. While the Brooklyn Nets may have been beaten by the Milwaukee Bucks in the second round this season, it's hard to imagine anyone stopping them when their whole big three is healthy, as Durant managed to take them to 7 games despite Kyrie Irving and James Harden both missing games in the series. It is likely that we see another spectacular season from Kevin Durant next season, and his Brooklyn Nets are clearly one of the favorites for the championship.
