Kevin Durant keeps making history in the NBA, reaching another milestone on Monday night against the Utah Jazz at Barclays Center. After he dropped 17 points, the 2x NBA champion surpassed Los Angeles Lakers legend on the all-time scoring list. KD scored 25,193 career points, moving past West, who collected 25,192 points during his career.

He dropped 20 more to finish the game with 37 points, leading the Nets to a big win against a dangerous rival without Kyrie Irving and Ben Simmons on the court. Following the match, KD had some interesting things to say, including the impact that some legends had on his career while reflecting on his historical night.

The Nets superstar opened up on overtaking a big legend like Jerry West, giving a humble response to what it meant for him to go higher than one of the biggest legends of his era.

“I told somebody, winning championships with J, having conversations with him and just knowing the history of who he is and how he helped kickstarted the NBA. It’s an honor. He’s just a legend in the game. A legend in our sport. Almost like the godfather of our sport, so good to see him still back around the game, but it’s even better to pass him because next time I see him, I’mma give him a little s**t about it, but it’s great to be amongst the all-time great players in this league.”

KD and West crossed paths when they worked for the Golden State Warriors. Durant stayed there for three years, going to the NBA Finals each year, winning two championships alongside Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green. West was a consultant for the Dubs, helping them create incredible squads that compete for everything consistently.

Durant is now in Brooklyn, but he has stated repeatedly he values his time with the Dubs and thanks everybody on that organization whenever he can. Durant can overtake another legend in the next couple of games, as Reggie Miller scored 25,279 points, just a little more than KD.
