Kyrie Irving is finally back on the court, as a part-time player for the Brooklyn Nets. The point guard is trying to find his rhythm, but still having good performances for the New Yorkers, who remain one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference.
The 2016 NBA champion can only see his team from home, as he’s not allowed to enter the Barclays Center if he’s still unvaccinated. Talking with Nick Friedell of ESPN, the player opened up on his situation, revealing how difficult it’s been for him.
Kyrie would like to go out and enjoy the city just like the rest of the players and fans, but his refusal to take the covid-19 shot makes that a difficult task to carry out. Irving, who has played five games, reveals he sometimes watches the games by himself or with some company.
“I can’t really go out and watch at a local bar or anything like that,” Irving, who is still not vaccinated against COVID-19, said recently. “I would love to be, ‘OK, [Kevin Durant] hit a shot, let’s [take a shot]’; I’m joking, but just having fun watching it. Sometimes I get to watch it alone and sometimes I get to watch with my family.”
This situation could come to an end only if he takes the shot, but the player is firm in his position. He won’t change his stance and the Nets will have to live with that. Without Kevin Durant, James Harden will have to carry this team through the next couple of months. Kyrie will make appearances on road games, but that won’t be the same.
The solution is simple, but Kyrie won’t change his mind on anything. In five games, he’s averaging 22.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.4 assists. He’s shooting 50.0% from the field and 33.3% from deep.
