as much as Kyrie Irving has denied it, there seems to be the slightest hint of animosity between him and his former teammate, LeBron James, who have been exchanging minor blows over the past couple of weeks.
Amid all the back-and-forth, a new report has surfaced about the Nets star regarding his time in Cleveland. Apparently, according to Jason Lloyd of The Athletic, Uncle Drew didn’t like the pressure that came with being a leader…
“He often lashed out on Twitter in those days about things that were written and said about him,” Lloyd wrote. “He used to tell me in those early days before LeBron returned, ‘I don’t know why everyone is looking at me to be the leader. I’m just a kid trying to figure this out.’”
Kyrie was the man in Cleveland for three seasons before LeBron arrived and took over. In that span, Irving was an amazing player, but failed to get the Cavaliers into the postseason. The Celtics suffered a similarly disappointing fate when Kyrie was holding the reigns.
Could the pressure have been too much or was there something else at play?
Amid this recent report, many fans have come to Kyrie’s defense, claiming media bias against him for his recent comments in which he called them “pawns.”
No matter your feelings on the matter, it seems tensions between Kyrie and the media have reached an all-time high as the season draws closer.
