Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen recently found himself at the center of controversy when an anonymous survey conducted by ESPN among NFL players labeled him the “most overrated” quarterback in the league. The survey results sparked widespread debate across social media, catching the attention of NBA superstar LeBron James, who quickly came to Allen’s defense.

“I GUARANTEE he’s at the top of the scouting report before playing Buffalo offensively! So who cares.”

LeBron, an outspoken sports fan known for sharing his opinions on social media, didn’t hold back in expressing his disbelief over Allen’s new title. This strong endorsement from one of basketball’s greatest players underscored the respect Allen commands, not just in football circles but across the broader sports world.

Garnering 11 out of 103 votes, Allen topped the list, which also featured Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts and Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa in a tie for second place.

James’ defense of Allen is not a one-off incident. The NBA legend, who hails from Cleveland, has previously expressed admiration for the Bills quarterback. Back in September 2022, LeBron took to social media to praise Allen, calling him “so good” after witnessing one of his standout performances. This time, however, LeBron’s comments came in response to what many perceive as an unfair characterization of Allen’s abilities.

Allen, for his part, took the controversy in stride. Responding with humor on his social media, he shared a popular meme, implying that being labeled the “most overrated” quarterback was akin to being the best trash talker. His response suggests that Allen understands the scrutiny that comes with being in the spotlight and is unfazed by the criticism.

The survey results, which highlighted Allen’s turnovers as a key reason for the votes against him, point to the high expectations placed on the quarterback. Despite leading the NFL with 102 turnovers since 2018, Allen has also led the Bills to five postseason appearances and two Pro Bowl selections, solidifying his status as one of the top quarterbacks in the league.

LeBron’s defense of Allen serves as a reminder of the respect elite athletes have for each other, recognizing the challenges and pressures that come with being at the top of their respective sports. While opinions on Allen’s ranking may vary, the support from a figure like LeBron James certainly adds weight to the argument that Allen is far from overrated. Instead, he remains a formidable force on the field, one who continues to be at the forefront of opposing teams’ game plans.
