The New Orleans Pelicans have finally made the NBA playoffs again, after a short drought after the Anthony Davis trade to the Los Angeles Lakers. However, they have advanced through the play-in tournament, and thus are the 8th seed and will be taking on the Phoenix Suns in the first round.
What is very impressive about the New Orleans Pelicans this year, is that they have been able to accomplish getting to the postseason without superstar Zion Williamson. Zion Williamson's step-father previously claimed that he expects him to suit up this season, but that hasn't happened yet.
"I expect him to play. If you were to ask Zion, I'm sure he would probably say the same thing. But with just a couple of games left, with the magnitude of what's going on in New Orleans and the opportunity to qualify for the play-in game and possibly get into a seven-game series, that would be off the charts in the city of New Orleans. That would be a plus in New Orleans. That would be a plus for Zion with the way things are right now."
"Do I expect him to play? Certainly I do. That's on me, though. That's purely me. I don't think there's anything else that would hinder him from doing that right now."
After the game, many fans wondered what would happen if the New Orleans Pelicans were to get Zion Williamson back. There is no doubt that he would boost their chances of potentially upsetting the Phoenix Suns. Most people still picked the Suns to win, but some thought the Pelicans had a chance to win with Zion Williamson.
There is no doubt that Zion Williamson is a game-changing star. The New Orleans Pelicans will be an even better team with him, and he will provide another scorer who can dominate near the rim.
It remains to be seen if Zion Williamson does in fact suit up. It is understandable if he doesn't as his health is a priority. However, things would definitely be interesting in the Western Conference if a healthy Zion Williamson joins up with this Pelicans squad.
