Zion Williamson is one of the league’s most exciting players when he’s on the court. His phenomenal athleticism allows him to be an effective scorer near the rim, as well as providing good rebounding. In the 2020-21 season, Zion Williamson averaged 27.0 PPG, 7.2 RPG, and 3.7 APG.
The New Orleans Pelicans have been without Zion Williamson all season, but are currently the 9th seed. Shams Charania previously reported that Zion Williamson isn’t expected to play this year.
“Sources said Zion Williamson is not expected to return to play this season, but that he is making progress toward on-court work. So far, Williamson has been seen doing stationary shooting and is able to bear weight on his injured foot.
However, Zion Williamson’s step-father, Lee Anderson, has recently stated that he expects Zion Williamson to play when speaking on The Jordy Culotta Show. There’s no doubt that the New Orleans Pelicans would immediately become a much better team with Zion Williamson starting at the PF position. (5:30)
“I expect him to play. If you were to ask Zion, I’m sure he would probably say the same thing. But with just a couple of games left, with the magnitude of what’s going on in New Orleans and the opportunity to qualify for the play-in game and possibly get into a seven-game series, that would be off the charts in the city of New Orleans. That would be a plus in New Orleans. That would be a plus for Zion with the way things are right now.”
“Do I expect him to play? Certainly I do. That’s on me, though. That’s purely me. I don’t think there’s anything else that would hinder him from doing that right now.”
If Zion Williamson comes back and the New Orleans Pelicans make the playoffs, they will immediately become an extremely dangerous first-round matchup for the Phoenix Suns.
Hopefully, we see Zion Williamson on the court soon. However, his health is clearly of the utmost priority, and he shouldn’t risk playing if he isn’t ready. There is only a few games left of the regular season for the Pelicans, and we’ll see soon enough if Zion Williamson ends up making a return to the court.
