Russell Westbrook hasn’t been an appreciated member of the Lakers roster despite his incredible resume prior to joining the team. Westbrook was once one of the best guards in the NBA and a stat sheet stuffer, currently sitting as the all-time leader in triple-doubles.

Westbrook came into the Lakers’ game against the Brooklyn Nets with 8,962 assists all-time, only 4 behind Gary Payton in 10th place. With his 10 dimes in the Lakers’ loss to the Nets, Westbrook surpassed Payton on the list and has now entered the all-time top 10 for the same. Fans have been reacting to the achievement as well.

For someone with Westbrook’s play style, it isn’t surprising to see him in this situation. Russ is also likely to pass Isiah Thomas for 9th place this season, as IT is just 89 assists ahead of Russ at the moment.

Is Russell Westbrook In The Final Chapter Of His Career?

The future for Russell Westbrook seems very unknown right now. Many teams will try and sign him in free agency on an affordable contract, as his veteran experience and ability to marshall offenses will be extremely valuable. It seems like the Lakers won’t trade him away, so he will likely see out the final year of his contract in the Lakers jersey.

Westbrook will have to reinvent himself more than just becoming a sixth man in the league. Hopefully, he can find what he needs to succeed with some team in the NBA. many teams could use him off the bench as their sixth man as well, so it seems Westbrook will struggle to become a starting point guard on a contending team if he severely alters how he plays.
